Manufacturers, installers and locksmiths on our network work in all nine provinces, from the townhouse complexes and face-brick suburbs of Gauteng to the salt air of the Durban, Cape Town and Gqeberha coast, Lowveld farms and the dry Karoo and Northern Cape towns. Choose your province or town to read about local doors, gates and bars and request a quote.

Gauteng

Gauteng mixes older face-brick houses in suburbs like Boksburg, Brakpan and Pretoria East with newer townhouse complexes in Midrand, Centurion and Fourways, and a large stock of flats and RDP and township homes. Older houses often have steel windows that take welded burglar bars, while newer builds use aluminium frames that suit clear bars or bars fixed into the reveal. Trellis doors and slamlock gates are the usual choice on front and kitchen doors, and complexes may set colour and style rules. Summer thunderstorms and dry winters are hard on poor paint. Fabricators work from industrial areas such as Germiston, Wadeville, Alrode and Pretoria West.

Mpumalanga

Mpumalanga has a mix of mining and power towns on the Highveld, such as eMalahleni, Middelburg and Secunda, and the greener Lowveld around Mbombela, White River and Hazyview. Houses are mostly face brick or plaster with a stoep, and many older homes keep steel windows that suit welded bars. Lodges, guesthouses and farms fit gates and bars on outbuildings, stores and staff housing, and shops in town centres use heavy gates and roll-up style doors. Humid Lowveld air and storms make rust a real concern, so finish matters. Fabricators and installers work mainly from Mbombela, eMalahleni and Middelburg, and travel to outlying farms and lodges.

North West

North West covers fast growing Rustenburg and its platinum belt, the Hartbeespoort and Brits area, university and farming towns like Potchefstroom and Klerksdorp, and wide maize and cattle country. Many homes are face brick with steel or aluminium windows, with a large number of RDP and township houses where simple burglar bars and a single security door are the usual upgrade. Farm homesteads and worker housing need gates and bars on stores, sheds and workshops. Dry heat and dust are tough on locks and moving parts, and hollow block walls need the right anchors. Fabricators work mainly from Rustenburg, Brits, Klerksdorp and Potchefstroom, and travel to farms.

Limpopo

Limpopo stretches from Polokwane, the main commercial centre, to the bushveld lodge country around Hoedspruit and Phalaborwa, the citrus and mango farms near Tzaneen, and mining towns like Mokopane and Lephalale. Homes range from face-brick houses and townhouse complexes in Polokwane to large numbers of township and rural houses, where bars on windows and a steel door are the usual first step. Farms and lodges need gates and bars for stores, workshops and staff quarters. Intense summer heat, sun and dust age paint and wear hinges and slides. Most fabricators work from Polokwane, with a few in Tzaneen, and may add travel time for remote jobs.

Northern Cape

The Northern Cape is the largest and most thinly populated province, with Kimberley as its main city, Upington on the Orange River, mining towns like Kathu and Kuruman, and small Karoo and Namaqualand towns. Houses are often single-storey face brick or plaster, with older steel windows and some thick-walled Karoo and heritage buildings where fixing needs care. Farms, guesthouses and shops use gates and bars on stores and outbuildings, and many businesses want heavy gates on shopfronts. Dry heat, wind and dust are hard on finishes and moving parts. Fabricators work mainly from Kimberley and Upington, so distance can affect lead times and travel costs.

Free State

The Free State has Bloemfontein as its main city, the goldfields towns around Welkom and Kroonstad, industrial Sasolburg, and the eastern towns of Bethlehem, Harrismith and Clarens. Older houses often have steel windows and sandstone or face-brick walls, while newer ones use aluminium frames. Security doors, trellis gates and burglar bars are common on houses and flats, and shops and offices in town centres tend to fit heavier gates. Farms need gates and bars for stores, sheds and workshops. Cold winters with frost and hot dry summers move steel and loosen fixings, so good anchoring matters. Fabricators are concentrated in Bloemfontein, Welkom and Sasolburg.

KwaZulu-Natal

KwaZulu-Natal spans Durban's coastal suburbs and beachfront flats, Umhlanga and Ballito estates, Pietermaritzburg's older houses, inland towns like Newcastle, and large township and rural areas. Salt air and humidity along the coast corrode ordinary steel quickly, so galvanising and a good paint system matter far more than the small extra cost. Houses often have steel or aluminium windows, and many flats and complexes have body corporate rules on gate and bar styles. Trellis doors, slamlock gates and clear bars are all common. Fabricators and installers work from areas such as Pinetown, Springfield, Jacobs and Pietermaritzburg, and travel to the North and South Coasts.

Eastern Cape

The Eastern Cape runs from Gqeberha and East London on the coast through Makhanda, Graaff-Reinet and the Karoo to Mthatha and the former Transkei. Older houses in Gqeberha and Makhanda often have steel sash windows and thick walls, and newer homes use aluminium frames. Coastal towns such as Jeffreys Bay and Port Alfred face salt air that rusts untreated steel, while inland farms and small towns need robust gates on stores and workshops. Many rural and township homes rely on a steel door and simple bars. Fabricators work mainly from Gqeberha, East London and Mthatha, and travel to smaller towns for larger jobs.

Western Cape

The Western Cape includes Cape Town's mix of Victorian terraces, flats, townhouse complexes and suburban houses, the winelands around Stellenbosch and Paarl, the Garden Route towns of George and Knysna, and Hermanus and Worcester. Heritage areas and estates can restrict what you fit on a facade, so clear bars and discreet designs are popular. Strong coastal wind, salt air and winter rain corrode ordinary steel, so galvanised or stainless parts and a good paint system last far longer. Many homes have timber, steel or aluminium windows, each needing different fixing. Fabricators work from areas such as Parow, Epping, Montague Gardens and Paarl.
